Hi

Did You ever hear a station on 20m with echoes??
like the voice of operator twice one strong and the other is weaker, the
difference between the 2 is just milli seconds..

That happens when there are 2 pathways open, long and short at the same
time.

I usually experience this funny occurrence in winter time when listening to
europe and stateside on long path at our afternoon and there is some propagation on short path, so your antenna receive two signals, one travels faster than the other.

By the way, soon, you can listen to stateside stations coming with good signals via long path... try listening to southern cross net on 14.238.5 afternoon. you'll hear also Australia and new zealand also.

best regards

First of all, thank you a lot Dr.Mohammed for this impressive post.

Many would expect such phenomena is an echo of a signal been reflected from the ionosphere, which is in a matter of fact is not an echo.
I am adding my theory to your post at a time where no one else might agree with this but why not having a different idea here and see how the others would react to it.

An hf signal have to reach the Layers of space, and then bounce back again to earth.

There are times where that HF signal split in half strength wise, while the full signal carriers ( contains ) remain unchanged, and the reflect value to earth of the split varies in time to reach, this could be in a matter of frection of a second or some times, in mints, or some times, Oh, this hard to believe!!!

Well some times, the broken signal in two might circle around the ionosphere for ages before it reaches the earth, long time back I did read a story of a signal broke down and did not reach the second party, but it did reach and been copied by another ham years after, where he also thought it was an echo.
A lot of these phenomenas might take place, and sometimes they are beyond any explanation.

Thank you Dr.Mohamed again for this very interesting post and I wish you all of the best

Is it possible to hear yourself calling on the air?

Oh ... Yesterday night around 21:00 UTC or 00:01 local time

I switched on my radio and 20m was amazing!!

I made some QSO's with stations from US

KC5WW, K4NV and others

---------------------------------------

I would like to add that the propagation is good on 10m these days

try to give a call in different times and I'm sure that you will make it

I was testing my antenna, three days ago on 10m and I made a QSO with

Russian station and he was 20db on my side (I was 40db) on his side

and that was after the sunset !!

It seem that we have new cycle and I hope that we will have more

Thanks for the audio clip now I know what to listen for. I have heard that echo before, but I did not know what it was.
