If I had to use this recently order Magnetic Mobile Base from Buxcomm, for my mobile mono band antennas, would I need to add an additional earth lead somewhere in the car metal structure or is the car earth would be enough?
Thank you and 73

I use a magnet mount antenna for talking on 10 and 12 meters. I just use the car body as the ground. It works well for me. No problems. I QSO very well if the sunspots are active with this type of antenna. :)

I will give it a try this afternoon, thank you a lot

Make sure the case of your radio is well grounded to the frame of the car, Rashed ! That should provide you with a fairly good ground. Be sure to let us know how well, or poorly it works. We will be interested in the results, in either case!

Thank you a lot for your input, I will do the earth of the radio body to the car as you have said and I will let you know about it.

Thank you my friend again and I am so gald some one like you on this site.

Hi..

Hope your mag mount is performing well.

I dont like to use them unless temporarily in a stationary vehicle.
Usually they dont stick well to the thin metal of modern cars and if you
put a heavy long antenna to them it is hazardous.

it may do the job for vhf/uhf if you mount them in the middle of the roof as the
roof act as ground reflection. for hf i dont know how well they will perform,
because most of the performance rely on grounding the car body at antenna
feedpoint.
For HF i would rather use at least trunk mount with proper grounding.

give us your results !

This a great site for mobile installations :http://www.k0bg.com/

Best Regards.

I do not like to use too but I do not want to drill this car Dr.Mohammed, I been waiting 3 months to get my car and it is a shame to do any opening in the body.

I also founf another alternaive way to connect my antenna now, the pulling polly could be used as long as its fittings been modified.

Thank you Dr for your input

Ahhh Rashed the things we go through because we like the radio.
I left another reply in the experiments section on your antenna mounting challenge. I'm becoming more and more convinced the antenna in the long wave lengths is needing more of the other half of the wave which the car being the ground supplys. You know where a dipole's center conductor side needs the ground braid side lined up good with it to make the swr right. The vertical needs your car to be the other half.

I wish you the best of times fixing your new car up for comfortable DXing while happy with the installation.

My only experience is with a magmount for 2 M. When I bought a new Nissan truck. The antenna was on the cab in about a year, I had ring damage. We has a bad hail storm, and I got a new paint job. I waited a month then put the antenna back. The ring came back in less that one year. I would get a trunk mount antenna as to where the contact point and support is on the underside of the trunk edge. :D
